Purpose and Background
The emergence of the knowledge economy, intense global competition and considerable technological advance has seen innovation become increasingly central to business competitiveness. As companies become increasingly focused on innovation, they must systematically invest and nurture innovation organizational capabilities, from which they execute effective innovation processes, leading to innovations in new product, services and processes, and superior business performance results. In this sense, Intellectual Capital, as a bundle of knowledge assets, has been widely proposed as an essential factor for best enhance and support innovation organizational capabilities, maintenance of competitive strenght, and ultimately, value creation dynamics.
Although the basic relationship between Intellectual Capital (IC) and Innovation Organizational Capabilities is on the whole persuasive, more remains to be understood about at different level of analysis. The challenge for managerial research lies then in formulating and extending theoretically grounded models and empirical applications in order to develop more rigorous conceptualisations, findings and practical uses of IC management for companies’ innovation capabilities improvement.
Managers and decision-makers, therefore, need to understand what are knowledge assets, how they are linked and affect innovation and business performance, how to manage and measure knowledge assets, how to design and implement strategies and actions for knowledge assets development in order to enhance innovation organizational capabilities and companies’ value creation dynamics. The IFKAD is aimed to represent a cognitive laboratory and a learning platform to discuss, understand and further develop these issues.
The main purpose of the IFKAD 2008 is to provide a unique international opportunity for the exchange of cutting edge knowledge and research about the role, theory and practice of IC management and measuring for sustaining innovation capabilities and value creation dynamics of companies as well as of nations, regions, clusters, local production systems and industrial districts and cities. The third edition of the Forum will be focused on the exploration of the following main topics:

  • Intellectual Capital-Based Policies for Territorial Sustainable Development
  • Intellectual Capital and Services
  • The Diffusion and Creation of Knowledge in Local and Global Networks

Call
Both senior and junior researchers as well as managers and policy-makers are invited to participate and contribute with a paper to the Forum. In particular, we wish to stimulate the active participation of young scholars – PhD. students and scholars who have finished their PhD within the last three years. Acceptance of all submissions will be based on the quality, methodological rigor and practical relevance to the central themes of the Forum. Submission of a paper grants permission for the organizers to include it in the Forum proceedings and to place it on the Forum website.

The submission (abstracts/papers) must be sent to via e-mail to info@knowledgeasset.org or directly uploaded using the upload form here bellow no later than April 10, 2008.
Decisions regarding paper acceptance will be based on the recommendations of a double blind review process, although the Forum Scientific Committee will make the final decision. It will be communicated by April 14, 2008. Upon receipt of the full paper no later than May 12, 2008, it will be reviewed to ensure that it fully reflects the abstract submitted and any reviewers comments made.
