Lancaster University Management School would like to announce availability of a research studentship funded by EPSRC under the Doctoral Training Account scheme. The successful student will become a member of the Department of Management Learning and Leadership, and will work with members of the Organizational Learning and Knowledge (OLK) research group. The focus of the research will be on motivational aspects of knowledge management and organisational learning, and it is expected that fieldwork will be conducted in high-technology engineering companies with which OLK members are already working.
The Focus of the Studentship
The research will focus on the motivational aspects of knowledge management and organizational learning. It will compare the knowledge sharing experiences and motivations of organizational members with the formal rewards and incentives established by their organizations. This is a response to three main issues: concern from companies about the problems of getting individuals to contribute to, or to use, knowledge management systems; the need to understand better the role of ‘organizational’ communities of practice; and general lack of empirical and theoretical studies in this area.
